Overview

Located in the historic city of Petaluma, California, the Adobe Animal Hospital offers full-service veterinary care, providing everything from wellness visits and dentistry to orthopedic surgery, ultrasound, and endoscopy.

Having outgrown her original hospital, Dr. Yvonne Stemwedel began searching for a new location to build-out a larger facility. The low stock of suitable existing buildings in Petaluma steered her toward acquiring a vacant site on which to build a brand new building. As luck would have it, she found and purchased a previously undeveloped site just four blocks south of her current hospital.

The interior of the building utilizes both functional, raw materials and warm colors to create an inviting and contemporary space. The reception desk is fabricated from steel and clad in porcelain tile and the suspended ceiling trellis above is made of wood and flanked by a soft sage green accent wall.

To help promote a low-stress environment, we designed an outdoor exam patio, accessible from two of the six exam rooms, where dogs can be examined in the calm of the outdoors. To help promote a cat-friendly environment, we included a separate waiting area for cats, two exam rooms designated  exclusively for cats, and a cat ward.
