Overview

First opened in a small leasehold space in 2011, the owner of Lake Anna Veterinary Hospital realized quickly that he would need a larger facility to meet the needs of his growing community.

Because creating equity was also a goal of the practice, instead of expanding into an adjacent rental space, they purchased the undeveloped site across the street and engaged Animal Arts to help build a ground-up hospital to serve the practice’s current and long-term needs.

The practice settled on a rustic, lake-lodge design that complemented the area’s waterfront homes. A water retention area, necessary to help manage stormwater runoff, acts as a reflecting pond on the side of the building along the main road.

Providing a Fear Free® experience for clients was a top priority, including species-specific entrances and separate waiting areas, and two cat and six dog exam rooms. The cat exam rooms
are next to a dedicated cat treatment space, allowing most cats to remain separate from any areas where dogs might be.

The medical areas of the hospital were designed to give the staff ample room to efficiently circulate and work. The treatment area can be accessed from all sides, with the support areas adjacent. To help manage circulation and control noise in treatment, a pass-through wall connects to the lab/charting/pharmacy space. The hospital also includes an ICU, CT, a two-table surgery, and a separate two-table dental suite.
