Established in 2017, Flatbush Cats has made a tremendous impact on the population of stray and feral cats in Brooklyn’s Flatbush neighborhood through TNR, and the fostering and adoption of friendly strays and kittens.
Animal Arts assisted with the design of their first nonprofit veterinary clinic in the heart of Brooklyn on Flatbush Avenue. With the new hospital, Flatbush Cats hopes to perform 7,500 spay/neuter surgeries a year.
Fifty percent of U.S. households can no longer afford basic veterinary care, and so the second goal of Flatbush Vet is to bring accessible care to Brooklyn’s dogs and cats with wellness exams, spay/neuter surgeries and for owned pets, vaccinations, and comprehensive exams for pets for treatment of common conditions, and end-of-life appointments.
The new hospital features a separate basement space where community cats are quarantined as they await care. On street level, the hospital has a welcoming lobby, two exam rooms, a two-table treatment area, a separate dental alcove, and the three-table surgery suite that is so important to their mission. Pack/prep, a laboratory counter, and ward spaces for dogs and cats round out the medical areas.
The location also has a “back yard” where staff and volunteers can work on projects including building winter shelters for community cats.
