Overview

Loyal Companions is among the first of its kind – a veterinary facility designed to accommodate Fear Free care into every aspect of the hospital. Cat and dog clients are separated throughout the hospital, beginning with separate entrances into the building, fully-separated reception areas, exam rooms, and treatment rooms. Waiting areas have been minimized to prevent the stress induced when animals come into contact with other unfamiliar animals and most patients are taken directly to an exam room from the reception desks. Cat housing is spacious, includes views to the out-of-doors and spaces where cats can hide.

Exam rooms include outside views at pet level, dog exam ottomans to prevent the fear associated with climbing up and down from exam tables, and specially-designed cat exam boxes. The hospital was also designed to let in copious amounts of natural light with windows from exterior to interior spaces allowing sunlight to reach far into the building. All five senses were considered in the design which includes effective noise mitigation and scent dispensers. Even the hospital’s color choices were made based on animals’ vision to create calming, natural spaces.
