Transforming animal welfare – Arizona Humane Society’s mission to reshape animal wellness and welfare in the greater Phoenix region has gotten a major upgrade with the construction of their new Papago Park Campus.
The new campus features a state-of-the-art veterinary trauma and critical care center; isolation wards for ringworm, parvo, and other contagious diseases to help protect healthy animal populations and provide sick animals with the best care; and special Mutternity and Catternity rooms for mothers and their litters.
The new facility also features the latest in animal housing to reduce stress and provide optimum spaces for dogs, cats, pocket pets, and rabbits of all sizes and special needs while they find their forever homes.
To further AHS’s progressive community outreach programs, the campus has three multi-purpose rooms and a classroom and has also been designed to provide behavioral training and rehabilitation services, spay/neuter surgeries, and rescue and cruelty investigations.
Located across the street from Papago Park, the buildings were designed to reflect their setting. Their exteriors are defined by the concept of erosion, each layer wearing away to the next material. The central organizing element is “the canyon”- a covered outdoor space that links the veterinary and animal shelter buildings and provides a unique public tour experience.
