In 2022, the City of Daphne brought Animal Arts on board to help them determine the needs for a new facility and re-envision what animal sheltering could look like in their community.
Animal Arts worked closely with the city and animal shelter stakeholders to create a new shelter to support best practices for animal care and to provide a safe and secure environment for the animals, staff, and volunteers in the community.
The city also wanted the building to be warm, inviting, and to reflect this coastal community’s charm to support their goals to increase public education and volunteerism, and find forever homes for more animals.
The city’s new animal shelter includes housing for 25 dogs, 26 cats, and 21 kittens that meets the Association of Shelter Veterinarians’ guidelines and provides options for animals in care to reduce stress and decrease length of stay. Dog housing is indoor/outdoor and group cat rooms have catio access. The new shelter also includes a classroom for educational and community events.
The shelter’s color palette was designed to evoke the city’s coastal location and be relaxing and welcoming to animals and people alike.
