Overview

The new NOCO Humane facility is an excellent example of a private/public partnership success story. This 39,000 square-foot shelter building was funded through a combination of a tax initiative and a capital campaign. The new shelter is set on 27 acres, and features a public dog park as well as walking trails for shelter staff and volunteers.

The building is designed to reflect local agricultural heritage in terms of form and materials, and to be at home in its community.

All of the animal spaces exceed even the highest industry standards, with enriched cat condos, catios, and cat runs, and very generous indoor/outdoor dog runs emptying into pavilions where dogs can play in small groups. Animal areas are hydronically heated for superior comfort.

This shelter also features a full-service veterinary clinic for shelter and foster animals, with the capability to expand services to the general public in the future.
